Journey to Lochgilphead
Time to move Hatasoo. She is all braced on the cradle, with boards to support her hull better than just the legs of the cradle. The cover is taken off and all ready to go.
I have used a local transport company to move Hatasoo a few times and they have always taken great care so R.D Anderson Haulage Ltd of Edinburgh was been contacted and the date is arranged for the 24th November 2023.Its just gone 8am and a few straps to tie her down and ready to go. I leave and R.D. Anderson follows. I thought I could make good time and be able to stop at Flanders Rest at Buchlyvie for a bacon and egg roll before the lorry caught up.
Indeed I was able to stop and order, but as all there food is freshly cooked I saw the lorry go past just as I was getting back in the car. From that point I was following 5 cars behind. It can be a strange sight following your boat perched high on the flat bed of a lorry. Every now and again seeing a low lying tree get close.
We made good time up the side of Loch Lomond to Tarbert, then turned off to drive up the dreaded Rest and be Thankful. This was the least of our problems! As soon as we got on the A83 the delays started, not due to weather as we were blessed with a fabulous day, in front of us was a wide load with a police escort. It took up most of the road with no way to pass. It was stop start all the way to Furnace when the wide load finally turned left and we thought here we go, we might just get there on time.
We celebrated too soon, a mile down the road another wide load loomed in the distance. It was not as bad, at least it kept moving, albeit at a slow pace. We did eventually reach Lochgilphead where Adam was waiting for us. The driver said he had only 5 minutes left of driving time it had taken so long. Even so he was still cheerful as always.
Hatasoo was then lifted off onto a trolley and winched into the workshop, to be her resting place for months to come.
